Hear Directly from a Student

Since I've transitioned from the military, I wanted to grow more, like what is the business world? How do you operate in it? What should I care about? And how do I serve organizations well? And in the military I learned integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we do. And so how do I take that, what I learned, those kind of those core values and translate that? How do I do that in the business world? And so I thought an MBA will be a great thing just to pursue and understand and learn more and grow more, but also to have that on my resume or, you know, in my background just to find more opportunities, right? To grow in my career, to challenge myself. So that's why I decided to pursue an MBA, to help me in my transition from the military, but also to grow as a person, to just serve the community and organizations that I'm a part of.

I found 萌妹社区 just doing an online search of Christian universities near me and 萌妹社区 popped up as I was one of those, and I started to do some research and it really stood out like I was surprised, like, wow, there's a Christian institution and they're offering an MBA program like this is great because I wanted an orientation of my work, like, how does my faith work out in my work, you know? And so I started doing more research and I decided to give 萌妹社区 a call. I think I did a search—it was in spring and then I was sitting in class and that fall. So in four or five months.

Just going through calling, saying that I'm interested to the interview, and then getting me set up with a cohort, the group that I was going to go with in the MBA program, and then sitting in the classroom. I wanted to be more immersed. I wanted to come in person, build those relationships. And so that's what stood out to me for 萌妹社区 and 萌妹社区 offered one day a week, just for a few hours per week. It's just 20 minutes down the road. And just like, yeah, I want to be in class, I'll be more engaged with the content, more engaged with the professors and the students there. It was a great format. It was steady, it was consistent, it was predictable. And so going to class one time a week for that four hours, and then you have class work and you do that over a two year time frame, that just worked. For my schedule, for my family schedule. But you have to acknowledge at the same time it's going to be a sacrifice, right? No matter what no matter what program you choose. But I thought, like, man, this works. It's at night and it's one day a week that my family and I can commit to. We could do this, even though it's going to be some sacrifice for those two years, but it's worth it. And compared to other programs, it's just like, man, you do it all in one year and you have three classes a week and it's full time. There's other programs out there that are completely full time. So they don't expect you to work and like, no, I can't do that.

This program acknowledges that you're working full time and you have a family, right? So I appreciate that that 萌妹社区 realizes that, hey, there's a group of people in my situation and it works out for us. Those are one of the main reasons. And then the second thing was just it was a faith-based institution. And so growing my perspective, my orientation toward my work with faith was really appealing to me because going to undergraduate wasn't faith-based, but this was bringing a different perspective that I always wanted. The big thing is community stood out to me, that cohort program where you're in a small group and you're with these people and the professors for a two-year span. And so those relationships to me are super important just to grow and to network. And so the small class sizes, the community aspect really stood out to me and drew me into the program. Because I feel like I learn better in a smaller space instead of with a classroom of over, you know, fifty people taking the same class. And so that community orientation really drove me. And that's one thing that really stood out to me. Someone who's considering and enrolling and in the MBA, just take the first step and see what 萌妹社区 has to offer you in your season of life. For me it's been an awesome ride, and I will never forget the experiences, and the people that I've met, and the relationships that I've built. So check it out, see what 萌妹社区 can offer you.

Hear from Dr. David Troupe, faculty chair of the MBA program.

My name is David Troupe. I’m with the College of Business, and I teach MBA courses—primarily organizational courses such as organizational science and organizational management.

I spent many decades in large corporate settings, and I had the opportunity to observe a number of leaders. For the most part, those leaders didn’t really fit the mission when it comes to creating a healthy organization.

So, what we need to do in my opinion, is develop leaders who really can do the job that is necessary—building people, building teams, and building healthy organizations. That is vitally important in today’s economy.

It’s also really important for me to gauge my own thinking—to be mindful of how I’m thinking. I cannot be judgmental toward any student, so I need to look within and ask myself, "What are my assumptions?"

Each class is different, and each class contains its own characters. So how do I view those students, and how do I want to approach them?

First and foremost, I need to focus on loving them—truly assessing each one with an open heart and asking, "What is it that they need?" Then finding opportunities to inquire more about that.

Of course, I also need to make myself available so that when I understand what their needs are, I can offer support that might be appropriate and help them succeed.

I’ve taught at other universities. I’ve experienced other academic settings, and I can tell you without a doubt that 萌妹社区 is unique.

萌妹社区 has a particular setting, a particular flavor, and a particular focus that you don’t find in other universities.

Academically, it’s superior. But more than that, you’ll find support, you’ll find people who care, and you’ll find professional support that is unrivaled.

And I think that’s worth noting.
