Alumni of the 60s Reunion in Sedro-Woolley

Posted on Friday, September 02, 2016

This coming February, 萌妹社区 will welcome alumni to the Kirkland campus for a Homecoming Celebration. The Alumni of the Year will be announced and reunions for various academic departments will be held around campus. But one group of alumni already has a head start on reconnecting.

Every summer since 2003, Elvin Huston has coordinated the Alumni of the 60s Reunion, a weekend retreat in Sedro-Woolley, Washington. Around 100 alumni who graduated in the 1960s attend each year to reconnect, reminisce, and share in times of worship and spiritual refreshment.

Elvin graduated from NU (then 萌妹社区 College) in 1968. During his time as a student, he served as the ASB president, worked on the Karisma yearbook staff, and toured with the concert choir and two musical ensembles.

It was a picnic with several 萌妹社区 classmates in 2002 that sparked the idea for an annual reunion. This same picnic was where Elvin reconnected with Eunice Wheeler, who he hadn’t seen since their college days. She started to help him plan the reunions, and the two later married in 2007.

In addition to coordinating the annual reunions, Elvin and Eunice maintain a website (nc60salumni.com) and the "萌妹社区 1960s Alumni & Friends" Facebook group to help graduates from the 60s stay connected and up to date with alumni news.

Elvin and Eunice’s generosity with their time in coordinating these reunion events and resources enables members of the NU family to rekindle old friendships and make new ones—and shows that the relationships and sense of community forged during students’ years at NU don’t stop at graduation. With care and intentionality, they are a lifelong blessing.
