Position Summary
This temporary position will provide operational support in the Academic Success and Advising department during the extended, temporary leave of a f/t staff member. The work may include, but not be limited to, summer advising and registration functions, developing fall course schedules for new students, preparing materials for event days, and conducting 1x1 advising appointments. This is a .25 - .50 position, 10 – 20 hours weekly, slated for 9 – 11 weeks of summer 2026. Critical dates include: May 29, June 11, 25, July 16, and 30.
Essential Functions
- Construct fall 2026 course schedules for new students in the traditional undergraduate program. This task will focus on students majoring in Communication & Media Studies, Film Production, Music Production, and students whose major is undeclared.
- Conduct individual advising meetings with students in aforementioned majors and their parents at Summer 2026 Summer Orientation Advising & Registration (SOAR) days.
- Provide general operational support for functions of the Academic Success & Advising Office, especially as related to SOAR preparation and delivery.
- Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
Education/Experience/Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- Previous academic advising experience or related experience preferred.
- Previous experience with university student services preferred.
- Ability to work collaboratively and congenially with staff and faculty from different cultural, socio-economic, and other demographic backgrounds.
- Demonstrated capacity to listen mindfully, strategically problem-solve, and carefully track details of complex circumstances.
- Responsive and reliable.
- Computer and Internet literate. Knowledge of basic programs preferred (including, but not limited to MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint). Working knowledge of Salesforce and Powercampus a bonus. Willingness to learn new programs required.
- Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a safe work environment free of harassment, violence, and unlawful discrimination.
Working Environment
- Work is generally performed indoors in a typical office setting.
- Some weekend/evening work may be required.
- Position works with strictly confidential information.
- Frequently required to be in front of a computer screen for long periods of time.
Physical Demands
The functions are usually performed while sitting, but may involve some amount of time standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting (max. of 40 lbs.), walking, carrying, reaching, stretching. The abilities of seeing, hearing and speaking are also required.
Compensation
Based on education and experience, the position has a hiring range of $19.20/hour to $19.95/hour.
